Abstract

Ankle joint injuries are among the most common in young basketball players because of frequent jumping, landing, and rapid changes of direction. These injuries may reduce the joint's functional efficiency and delay the athlete’s return to sports participation. Therefore, there is a growing need to use modern therapeutic and rehabilitation methods that accelerate recovery and improve joint function.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of rehabilitation exercises combined with Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) on rehabilitating ankle joint injuries in young basketball players. The researchers used the experimental method because it suited the nature of the study. The research sample consisted of five basketball players who had been medically diagnosed with Grade II Lateral Ankle Sprain, with the diagnosis confirmed by a specialist physician. The assessment included ankle joint range of motion (ROM) tests and muscle strength tests of the surrounding muscles. A rehabilitation program combined with Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) was implemented for six weeks. The results showed statistically significant differences between pre-test and post-test measurements, in favour of the post-test, for all range of motion and muscle strength variables. The rehabilitation program combined with Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) also reduced pain, improved ankle joint function, and increased muscle strength in the muscles acting on the joint.

The researchers concluded that integrating Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) with rehabilitation exercises is an effective approach for rehabilitating ankle joint injuries in young basketball players.
