Abstract

  • The research entitled ((A study of the reality of the body mass index (BMI) among students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Kirkuk)) deals with knowing the reality of the body mass index among students, which is what this study summarized by measuring the mass and height of the students, then by statistically equating them, the body mass index is extracted for them and compared with standard scores that indicate whether the weight is normal, underweight or obese, which constitutes an addition to the concepts related to physiology, testing, measurement, selection and lifestyle for athletes.                                                                                                          Obesity is considered one of the most significant public health challenges facing societies and one of the most serious in the sports sector due to its potential future health consequences. Its prevalence has increased significantly in most countries, particularly low- and middle-income countries, especially in urban and rural areas. This is also true within the sports community due to a lack of focus on training alongside physical fitness, achieving optimal training levels, or reaching peak athletic form. Students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences are part of the sports community, hence the need to study this indicator.

  • The research aims to determine the current state of the Body Mass Index (BMI) among students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Kirkuk University. The research sample consisted of 258 students (male and female) enrolled in the morning program at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Kirkuk, during the 2024/2025 academic year.

The results demonstrated that regular physical activity levels significantly impact students' body mass index (BMI) and their adherence to exercise regimens.     The researchers recommend emphasizing the importance of health awareness                                  among physical education and sports science students: promoting awareness about  maintaining a healthy weight and balancing physical activity with diet to preserve overall   health and achieve optimal athletic performanc
