Abstract

Information technology has a significant impact on the lives of university students and young people, as they represent the most frequent users of such technologies worldwide. It constitutes the dominant means of social communication, facilitates self-care practices, and serves as an effective tool for accessing information and expressing opinions. Accordingly, the present study aimed to identify the levels of information technology use and mental health, as well as to examine the relationship between them among students of the colleges and departments of physical education and sports sciences at universities in Nineveh Province.

A descriptive correlational research design was employed due to its suitability for the nature and objectives of the study. The research population consisted of 1,592 male and female students enrolled in physical education and sports sciences colleges  and departments at universities in Nineveh Province (100%). A randomly selected sample of 400 students, representing 25.12% of the population, participated in the study.

The results revealed that students demonstrated a high level of information technology use and a moderate level of mental health. Moreover, a statistically significant correlation was found between the level of information technology use and the level of mental health among the students.
